In part three of Gloria Purvis’ “Racism, Human Dignity, and the Catholic Church in America,” we explore stories from after the Reconstruction Era.
Gloria examines the life of the newly free black person and the changes in societal attitudes, laws, and practices that followed the Civil War. These discussions are intended to be the start of a broader conversation about human dignity and racial justice. We hope and pray that this series will continue the conversation about ending racism in the Church and across the world.
Sts. Peter Claver and Josephine Bakhita, pray for us!
