On February 6, 2023, Bishop Robert Barron gave an address at the Houses of Parliament for civic and religious leaders in London, England.
Rather than discuss “Church-state relations, religious liberty, or the Christian foundations of democracy,” Bishop Barron invited those in attendance to consider Christianity’s endurance throughout the ages.
The Church, which has “existed in the context of ancient empires and medieval monarchies and modern nation-states and totalitarian systems,” Bishop Barron remarked, “is still here. I think it’s deeply odd. It’s deeply strange and worth reflecting on.”
Bishop Barron’s pilgrimage to the United Kingdom, which also included the celebration of Mass at Westminster Cathedral and a visit to St. Thomas More’s cell in the Tower of London, paved the way for Word on Fire’s international expansion, launched in September 2023.
