NBC News Hires Father Robert Barron for On-Air Commentary

Fr. Barron will cover the events of Pope Benedict’s departure and the election of his successor

Father Robert Barron has been hired by NBC News as a contributor and analyst covering the departure of Pope Benedict and the events leading up to the election of a new Pope. Fr. Barron will cover these events on the NBC network broadcasts as well as MSNBC and CNBC. He has already appeared on the Today Show, Nightly News and MSNBC during the past few weeks.
 
Fr. Barron is the founder of the global Word on Fire Catholic Ministries (www.WordonFire.org) and the Rector/President of Mundelein Seminary.
 
During the week of Pope Benedict’s stepping down, Fr. Barron will be on the air in New York with analysis on his departure. Barron is expected to then travel to Rome to cover the conclave to elect his successor and the announcement of the new Pope.
 
Father Barron is the creator and host of CATHOLICISM, a groundbreaking, award winning documentary series about the Catholic Faith. The series has aired across the country on PBS and EWTN, and has been seen and broadcast in parishes, universities, schools and media outlets throughout the world. The documentary received a Christopher Award for excellence. Father Barron and Word on Fire will be releasing a highly anticipated new documentary "CATHOLICISM: The New Evangelization" in 2013.
 
Father Barron currently serves as the Rector/President of Mundelein Seminary University of St. Mary of the Lake. He was appointed to the theological faculty of Mundelein Seminary in 1992, and has also served as a visiting professor at the University of Notre Dame and at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas. He was twice scholar in residence at the Pontifical North American College at the Vatican.
