Besides the Bible and conscience, something Woody Allen wrote in Hannah and Her Sisters is a key source that spurs me on to (try to) evangelise - here he masterfully evokes the existential angst / despair of living in a "godless universe" (and although he doesn't become a theist, it is the change he makes from atheism to a hopeful agnosticism + his love of humour that leads him to escape the despair of a "godless universe")

- and it's very poignant and great art i think (besides the all-important philisophical-like side to it regarding the despair of living in a "godless universe")

A great example of how we can learn so much from art.
Wish more of our religious leaders could spot these things and use them for reflection.

Well said. What i really like about priests such as Barron and Sheen (deceased), and many others (ie Ronald Knox, and the late Pope, and Pope John 23, and the present Pope, as well as non-priests such as Chesterton, Lewis, Tolkien) is that they appear as interested in things such as the arts, humour, and so on as theology. Because all these other things (including an overall interest in the nature of man) give life to theology! Theology on its own can appear academic, lifeless, dull. Dead.
Saying that, theology, in turn gives structure and purpose to our study of the humanities and of the nature of man in general.
Priests must known their theology, and know it well! But if theology only, they can appear dull.
Priests must love man - including the nature of man. God does! Despite our fallen nature. And Jesus too, isn't just (fully) God. But (fully) man, too.
And we are both wonderfully body and soul (not just soul). Both wonderfully of nature and the supernatural.
I pray for more priests. And for priests who love the nature of man as much as theology! To be a humanist (in the Christian, Sir Thomas More, sense, not the secular sense) as much as a theologian.

Every time Woody Allen is cited here, on a Catholic web site, as a source for any sort of "wisdom," yet another woman leaves the Church forever, never to return...

Sure. And if we refused to engage with the culture and refused to find any vestige of grace or wisdom outside of the Church, then she would have happily stayed.
