Last year Father Barron recorded a series at our Word on Fire studio with Rozann Carter and Robert Mixa. In this series, Rozann and Bobby had the opportunity to ask Father theological questions- who or what is God, was the cross necessary, why did God create the world and what is the relationship of the soul and body (just to name a few.) The series demonstrates Father Barron’s eloquence and skill as a teacher as well as highlighting the inquisitive and prodigious intellects of two members of the Word on Fire team. I also make an appearance in these videos (or should I say my bald cranium does).
The series is very thoughtful and clarifying and goes a long way to dispel many misconceptions that many, particularly the Church’s interlocutors have about some fundamental truths of the Faith. Further, given that Rozann and Bobby are part of a demographic that the Church is particularly concerned about these days (so interested that an institution no less than Fordham sponsored a conference to examine their generation’s rapport with the Church) it is interesting to hear their questions as well as Father’s answers.
We posted these videos on the blog before, but Father Barron and I watched the videos again and thought that the content is evergreen and even if folks have seen them, they are really worth another look. One thing that struck us about the themes of these videos is how critical it is to understand what the Church actually professes to believe about these truths of the Faith and how the Church’s worldview opens up from their vantage point. We will post one video on the blog a week for the next twelve weeks. Take a look and witness faith seeking understanding, not just in theory, but in practice.
