May your tribe increase as well, Father. I hope your Mom knows how smart you turned out to be!

Thank you, Father. We always enjoy your spiritually and intellectually stimulating commentaries, and my hat is off to Brit for his courage is makeing that statement. I wonder, however, if presenting Christianity in a compelling manner is a matter of argument or is it a matter of example and prayer.

9/11 often comes up in religious conversation to demonstrate a religious point. Yet when one mentions the fact that over 1,100 professional architects and engineers have banded together in public rejection of "the official conspiracy theory," (terrorists can't take 3 towers down by hitting only 2, after all, as architects and engineers well know) these same religious folk who just used 9/11 to illustrate a religious point, cry foul, saying that 9/11 isn't a religious issue. What happened to good old American skepticism? I don't get it. Great points, though, Father Barron. peace and thank you.

Indeed, public proclamation of the truth and beauty of our faith must be encouraged, but must be done with sensitivity and love. Proclaiming the truth of Jesus may be done in a positive, encouraging, affirming way that does not resort to offhand insult of the other. Effective communication always demands consideration of one's audience, and no person can be convinced of the validity of Christianity by means of insulting his or her own core beliefs straight away. That is a distinction worth considering in this situation.
