Fr. Barron intelligently but gently pushes against the sails of the ship heading towards the land of no religion and no truth except what any person feels. I might have been more forceful -- given that schools can't mention Merry Christmas and so-too most businesses. Tolerance run amok has created anti-Christianity where the only thing not mentioned is Christ.

Nice bit of media criticism -- we need more of this.

Great response to a stupid and dangerous ad. I only wish the recording of Fr. Barron was more audible. I had my speakers at full blast and had great difficulty hearing some of his words.

Thanks for an insitful commentary. It is sad, I guess I am so desensitized that I didn't catch what was being said in that ad, usually tapping along with my foot. I should have been very disapointed in the Gap.

So true Fr. Barron. My response to "Happy Holidays" is "Merry Christmas." I politely inform folks that I do not celebrate the "holidays;" I celebrate Christmas. I insist.

once again, Fr. Barron, you show your genius. I know in my heart that these ads and this general attitude of neutering Christmas of all its signifigance is against the tradition of this country, but all they site is "tolerence" and "inclusion". The truth is not inclusive. It is for everybody, but excludes those who embrace lies. God bless you Fr. Barron and WOF team.
Well done...again and again!

I have always felt those "gap" ads were off the wall and a little "stupid". The best part of my Christmas was Mass, its something beautiful that I can always think about , and have comfort in that and God, and the commercialism of Christmas , I could write a book on whats wrong with that. but you say things so well Fr, thank you for your insight. God Bless ..

As a Catholic I see why this is controversial, but as someone who owns a business I also understand that in business focusing on one ideology brings trouble and no company can risk highlighting God for that reason. This may not be right, but it is true. It is important for a business to be all inclusive of it's employees and it's clients or they would need to fend themselves from lawsuits at every turn. The work of always trying to stay neutral so everyone is happy is difficult and not always in alignment with our own spiritual and religious beliefs. When I first saw the Gap ad my thought was that it was fun, entertaining and a little daring for them to do, but I also understood what their goal was - to be all inclusive. They threw out many different religious holidays as well as other winter treasures like the winter solstice. Your blog inspired me to go to their website and look around. I also went to Abercrombie & WalMart's corporate sites. Ironically enough Gap seems to beat the crowd in socially responsible programs (sadly even my own company). Reading prior postings makes me thankful that I am not trying to market a product for Christmas consumptionism. I thank you for your thought provoking insights.
