Well done. Your comment about the Roman, the Brit, and the American was particularly striking in light of Scott Brown's election in Massachusettes this week. What struck me is how so many voted for him, even though he supports abortion, because he was the lesser of two evils. I'm not sure that this is necessarily in-tune with what Jesus teaches us in His apocalyptic message. Perhaps He would say, far better to choose neither evil and rest in Him than to choose a lesser evil and rest in the world, for the US and the world are finite. What do you think?

I wonder if Fr. Barron would include the (institutional) Catholic Church in the list of temporary entities that will surely pass? Presumably yes?

@terrence - If Catholics are correct in their belief that the Catholic Church was istituted by Jesus Christ then the answer is no but that I suggest you ask him yourself he will give a much more eloquent explanation of it than I ever will.

Terrencef100, I would encourage you to refer to Matthew 16: 18-19. You will find your answer there.

Terrencef100, Is truth absolute or relative? If relative truth is always changing and therefore institutions will rise and fall with little effect. If truth is absolute, then it is never changing and will never fall to the gates of hell. So I ask you, what would you say the pillar and foundation of truth is? Paul says this, "15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth."1 Timothy 3:15 (King James Version) or in our vernacular
1 Timothy 3:15 (New International Version - UK)

15 if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God's household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.

Paul states that an institution is the pillar and foundation of truth, so if the institution disappears then the pillar and foundation for truth will also. What does that mean for truth?

One would surmise the return of Christ would complete the apostelic succession. The vicar -- or agent -- of Christ would be replaced by Jesus as earthly (and universal) ruler of the Church. The leader of the church would possibly serve as a subordinate to Christ. This is purely conjecture, of course, as I don't remember any Biblical scripture detailing the subject.
