Well said Fr. It seems obsessive how they will go after Mel Gibson with such vigour, yet Hollywood is filled with examples of dysfunction and poor behaviour. The subtext is, 'well he's a lunatic because he is Catholic.'
Thank you.

Whether you are dealing with this unfair comment here or there, you totally unlike our opponents always play so fair.
Satan does not know the meaning of playing fair and nor does he ever intend to. Your attitude toward Christopher Hitchens is such a great example of your Fair attitude and approach. God Bless you Father Bob and thanks for showing us hot heads how to react. CH at the moment by his latest comments is not yet responding to prayer by calling Our great Pope B16 a criminal. We must go on praying for all these wicked antagonists as they are so severely blinded by what must be PRIDE.
Thanks Father B for you clear assessment in all matters on these Posts.

This is just a suggestion to all those who read these comments and posts and I am sure you already do this but please if you can, send the URLs to your mailing list.
I know lots of Protestants who sincerely love Father B's comments too. This must go a long way towards their conversion to the true faith and their coming home to The Roman World Wide Catholic Church. It must also help lapsed Catholics too.

The current obsession with Mel Gibson's fall from grace surely goes well beyond anti-catholicism.....any person who has been subjected to vile threatening verbal and physical abuse, no matter what its cause,
cannot help but be grateful for the public exposure of the often hidden violence of domestic abuse to the souls of all involved, children especially. The recordings expose the violence in need of redemption in a very graphic way much like photos of the carnage of war. These recordings are compelling and demand a response. The light of Christ, shines a spotlight on all the dark places of the human heart in need of conversion.

I'm not sure skeptical comments about Gibson and his Catholicism are anti-Catholic in intent. He was very public about his faith when it suited his purposes, so it's natural for people to engage in a little schadenfreude now. His breakup with his wife, his cheesy, midlife crisis affair with this shallow woman, and his subsequent meltdown are pretty much fair game. Also, this particular comment was made in an Irish newspaper. Irish Catholics have been through a lot this past year or so and deserve a little slack. Every negative comment aimed at the Church or a high-profile Catholic isn't always anti-Catholic. Sometimes those comments are deserved and the Church and Catholics in general have to take it on the chin.

@SarahM We will take it on the chin. That doesn't mean we have to take it lying down.

Thank you Fr. Barron. There is so much evidence of obsession in the media’s onslaught against Mel - it seems beyond blatant to me. In any case, I imagine that he also, spiritually speaking, is targeted all the more because of his prominent place in the public eye. Indeed the greater the potential influence a person may posses the greater they are targeted. I love Mel and I know that there is much healing available to those of us who have been so much wounded. I hope he knows that in judging actions we don’t judge him as we don’t judge anyone. I have not at all been given the trials he has and we know only God may judge a person. Why am I saying all this? As with all persons who need prayer, like me and all people we must pray for each other. So that being crucified, in dying to sin we may rise with Christ. God bless you all my brothers and sisters.
