Dear Fr. Robert,
Your explanations are excellent and inspirational, too. Thank you.

I find very impressive the aspect you are reflecting at the end of the homily, the contrast between the earthly power represented by Pilate, and on the other hand, our Lord, who beats all such powers by his Suffering on His Cross and by His Glory through His Resurrection.

Pilate's irony itself is ironised by the transitoriness of earthly affairs, even much more by his pompous ignorance and arrogance. Christ's Cross may have looked like a defeat to His opponents and those weak in Faith, instead it was a victory - but let's stop here -- I find such antagonisms not very helpful on a deeper level. Christ's self-giving Sacrifice of Love suffers the violence and is the opposite structure in contrast to the oppression, that wants to take his life away, but CHRIST'S SACRIFCE GIVES LIFE! It is foundational for His kingdom. The Lamb reigns! This paradox is key, and regarding it is indispensable. This principle unites seemingly water and fire, but instead it is the Glory of the life-giving Passion.

Rev 19:6-7
"'[...] Alleluia! The reign of the Lord our God Almighty has begun; 7 let us be glad and joyful and give glory to God, because this is the time for the marriage of the Lamb."

I am reminded of the prayer "Te Deum", in which the Church proclaims her praise to the Lord, singing full of joy together with the angels and manifesting the Faith and one's allegeance to the true and everlasting Kingdom of the Son of God, who is simulataneously the Lamb of God, and eternally being the Lamb is his own grounding of His eternal Heavenly Kingdom (Rev 19:13 "[...] his cloak was soaked in blood").

As it says in this Ambrosian hymn:
"Thou art the King of Glory: O Christ!" (lat. "Tu Rex gloriae, Christe")
and
"When thou hadst overcome the sharpness of death :
thou didst open the Kingdom of Heaven to all believers.
Thou sittest at the right hand of God : in the glory of the Father. We believe that thou shalt come : to be our Judge." (lat. "Tu, devicto mortis aculeo, aperuisti credentibus regna caelorum.
Tu ad dexteram Dei sedes, in gloria Patris.
Iudex crederis esse venturus.")

We are called for participation in the sacrificial Love of our Lord and consequently in His Royal Glory.

1Pe 2:9
"But you are a chosen race, a kingdom of priests, a holy nation, a people to be a personal possession to sing the praises of God who called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light."
